Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Wednesday announced holding a public meeting in Karachi on August 29.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the PDM leadership made this announcement in a joint media talk after holding a huddle meeting at the farmhouse of the Nawaz League’s leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry in Chak Shehzad, Islamabad.

The PML-N was the host of the meeting and PDM head Maulana Fazlur Rehman chaired it. Security was tightened around the farmhouse. 

The main leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Pakhtunkhawa Milli Awami Party, Balochistan National Party (BNP), and Pashtun Nationalist Quami Watan Party (PNQWP) would participate in the meeting.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif along with Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Aftaf Sherpao, Mehmood Achakzai, Prof Sajid Mir, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Hafiz Hamdullah, Awais Noorani and others joined the summit. 

Later, Maulana Fazalur Rehman and Shahbaz Sharif with other PDM leaders held a media talk and announced that the PDM summit would be held in Karachi on August 28 and the next day they would hold the public gathering. He also said that the PDM’s Steering Committee would also meet on Aug 21.

Fazal said the meeting reviewed the situation in the country facing serious threats. He said the fake government of Imran Khan was failing inside as well as outside the country by its worst foreign policy which left Pakistan in a state of global isolation.

He said the PDM had believed that the negotiations were the only solution to the Afghan issue. He also urged the government that the opposition in parliament should be taken into confidence over the situation in Afghanistan.

Shahbaz Sharif while talking to the media said Nawaz Sharif was undergoing treatment in London and he would not return to Pakistan without treatment.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly said the doctors were checking up on Mian Sahib on daily basis, adding that the government of Imran Khan was politicizing Mian Sahib's illness.

On this occasion, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the meeting appointed Aftaf Ahmad Khan Sherpao as Senior Vice President in place of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former premier Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Just before starting the meeting, Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) supremo Nawaz Sharif assured the PDM head and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman that the PML-N would ensure implementation on whatever decisions are to be taken at the alliance’s huddle.

In a telephonic conversation with Fazl, Nawaz assured him that the PML-N would extend all possible help in this regard.

Earlier, Nawaz League held a consultative meeting in which Nawaz Sharif addressed the core party through a video link and assured the PDM leadership that the PML-N would accept all decisions of it.
