Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday that Islam and the country’s constitution guarantee to minorities their rights, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In his message on the occasion of National Minorities Day, he said that the people belonging to minority communities had always played their role in the country’s development and prosperity for which, he said, he saluted them.

The minister was of the view that the contribution made by minorities to the country’s progress could not be overlooked.

He went on to say that the government was committed to eradicating discrimination against minorities and promoting understanding between different groups of society.

Naqvi said that today there was a need to renew the pledge to work for the protection of the rights of minorities with new vigour.
