Opp leaders slam govt over lawlessness, curbs on freedom of expression

Opposition leaders at a press conference on Monday criticized the government over the prevailing lawlessness in the country and sentencing of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in May 9 cases.

PTI leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, Ali Muhammad Khan, Amir Dogar, Sardar Latif Khosa and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai attended the press conference. They said there is no law in Pakistan and neither judiciary nor media is independent in Pakistan.

They said that PTI was deprived of the election symbol just a few days before the February 8, 2024, General Elections. They said that once again several PTI leaders were sentenced to 10-year imprisonment in May 9 cases. They said that those who stole the Feb 8 general elections committed terrorism far severer than the alleged terrorism committed on May 9.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said that first his party’s mandate was stolen and now his party’s lawmakers are being disqualified. How said that now the PTI has been reduced to just 76 lawmakers in the National Assembly.

Asad Qaisar said his party had no faith in courts and justice was not even a distant possibility.
