Pakistan reports 11 coronavirus deaths, 395 infections in a day

Pakistan has recorded another 11 deaths and 395 infections from the coronavirus pandemic during the last 24 hours (Friday), showed the statistics released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Saturday morning.

As per the NCOC figures, after the addition of 11 new deaths, the overall toll has now surged to 28,823 whereas the number of total infections now stood at 1,288,761 after adding the fresh 395 cases.

During the last 24 hours (Friday), a total of 50,859 tests were conducted throughout Pakistan whereas the positivity ratio stood at 0.77 percent. The number of patients in critical care was 759.

During the last 24 hours (Friday), as many as 358 patients have recovered from the virus whereas the total recoveries stood at 1,250,427. As of Saturday, the total count of active cases in the country was recorded at 9,511.

As many as 477,721 coronavirus cases have so far been confirmed in Sindh, 443,794 in Punjab, 180,611 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 108,081 in Islamabad, 33,528 in Balochistan, 34,601 in Azad Kashmir and 10,425 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Moreover, 13,050 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Punjab so far, 7,634 in Sindh, 5,885 in KP, 962 in Islamabad, 743 in Azad Kashmir, 363 in Balochistan and 186 in Gilgit Baltistan.

 

GLOBAL DEVELOPMENTS

Here are the global developments in the coronavirus crisis:

Hong Kong will require travellers from the US to spend seven days at a government quarantine camp, after a passenger coming from there tested positive for the Omicron variant.

- Premier League on alert -
England's Premier League sides are told to return to emergency Covid protocols, leaving Norwich waiting anxiously for test results ahead of their clash with Manchester United.

- Nearly 5.3 million dead - 
The coronavirus has killed at least 5,286,793 people since the outbreak emerged in China in December 2019, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP at 1100 GMT on Friday. 

The United States has suffered the most Covid-related deaths with 794,648, followed by Brazil with 616,457, India with 474,735, Mexico with 296,188 and Russia with 287,180.

The countries with the most new deaths are the US with 1,310, followed by Russia with 1,176 and India with 624, after the Asian nation revised its figures upwards. 

Taking into account excess mortality linked to Covid-19, the World Health Organization estimates the overall death toll could be two to three times higher.
