Former Russian ambassador, HSE students visit Pakistan embassy in Moscow

The Pakistan Embassy in Moscow hosted a distinguished delegation of students and academics from the Higher School of Economics (HSE), including former Russian Ambassador Andrey Glebovich Baklanov, the Embassy’s spokesperson said on Thursday.

The visit took place on the invitation of Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, and brought together participants from Pakistan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Baklanov, who previously served as Russia’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and now teaches at HSE, attended as the special guest of honour.

During the interaction at Pakistan House, Ambassador Tirmizi briefed the visitors on the ancient Indus Valley Civilization and Pakistan’s rich cultural and historical heritage. He also underscored the growing partnership between Pakistan and Russia, noting that bilateral ties—rooted in trade—are expanding across culture, diplomacy and other areas of cooperation.

The meeting also featured an in-depth discussion on connectivity initiatives and regional cooperation projects linking Pakistan and Russia through Central Asia, reflecting both countries’ interest in strengthening Eurasian linkages.

Students engaged the ambassador with questions on international politics, foreign policy, and broader shifts in the global landscape. Ambassador Tirmizi offered detailed and candid responses, the spokesperson said.

At the conclusion of the visit, the HSE administration invited the ambassador to deliver a special lecture at the university, marking a further step in academic and diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Russian institutions.
