Timeless romance on track: DDLJ joins UK Railway 200 celebrations with exclusive stage musical
In a unique fusion of cinematic history and railway heritage, the iconic Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) is now part of a special collaboration between Britain’s railway system and Yash Raj Films (YRF).
The partnership marks two significant milestones: the 200th anniversary of Britain's railway system and DDLJ's approaching 30-year legacy.
As part of Valentine’s Day festivities celebrating the romance of rail travel, YRF and Britain’s Railway 200 have joined forces to present Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical. This stage adaptation of the beloved 1995 film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol is set to premiere at the Manchester Opera House on May 29, 2025, running until June 21, 2025.
The production will feature an original score consisting of 18 English songs, seamlessly blending Eastern and Western musical influences. Renowned duo Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani composed the music with a book and lyrics penned by Nell Benjamin. The creative team further includes acclaimed choreographer Rob Ashford, co-choreographer for Indian dances Shruti Merchant, scenic designer Derek McLane, and casting director David Grindrod.
A major highlight of the musical will be the recreation of the iconic scene filmed at London’s King’s Cross Railway Station, where the film’s lead characters, Raj and Simran—played by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol—experience a heartfelt moment of love and connection.
Beyond the stage production, the collaboration aims to celebrate the power of connection, culture, and romance through immersive activations at key railway stations in Manchester and London. These activations will allow fans to relive the magic of DDLJ in a real-world setting, reinforcing the film’s lasting impact on global audiences.
