South Africa beat Afghanistan in T20 WC match by four runs

South Africa beat Afghanistan in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, 2026 match played in Ahmadabad India on Wednesday by four runs, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The match was decided in the second Super Over after scores of both teams were levelled.

Earlier, put into bat, South Africa scored 187 runs in the allotted 20 overs for the loss of six wickets.

Ryan Rickelton scored 61 runs, while Quinton de Kock piled up 59 runs.

The match was tied after Afghanistan equalized the total.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 84 wasn't enough as Afghanistan were bowled out for 187 in 19.5 overs, in a last over that featured two no-balls by Kagiso Rabada.

SA's Lungi Ngidi, who took three wickets in the regular match, conceded 17 runs in the first Super Over as Afghanistan's Azmatullah Omarzai smashed two sixes and a four.

First Super Over was bowled which also failed to produce the result as both teams scored 17 runs each.

In the second Super Over, South Africa gave to Afghanistan the target of 23 runs, which the latter failed to achieve.

However, against the odds, Tristan Stubbs smashed a maximum off the final ball to force a second Super Over.

Stubbs and David Miller then hammered three sixes against Omarzai in total to post 24 in the second Super Over. Gurbaz needed to hit four sixes in the final four balls, and nearly pulled off the improbable with three consecutive sixes, but got out on the final ball.

As a result, Afghanistan have now lost both of their opening Group D games, while New Zealand and South Africa are in pole position to qualify with two wins from two.
