Shehbaz demands ECP to disclose report on PTI’s ‘foreign funding’

January 11, 2022 03:55 PM

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to make public the eight volumes of its scrutiny committee’s report in the foreign funding case of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In his statement, he claimed these volumes contained proofs of what he alleged secret bank accounts and foreign funding of the ruling party.

He was of the view that keeping these volumes a secret was a ‘crime’.

He went on to say the purpose of launching the probe was to make public its findings, and not to hush them up. “I urge the ECP not to accept any request or succumb to coercion, and let the nation know the facts,” he said, and added, “These details of PTI’s ‘foreign funding’ are a public trust.”

He opined the very fact that Prime Minister Imran Khan did not want contents of the scrutiny committee’s report to be leaked was proof of his culpability. “The party has been trying to conceal its record from the election commission for the last seven years,” PML-N president said, adding that now it would not be allowed to do so.

“The investigation done by the State Bank of Pakistan has laid bare the ruling party’s all secret bank accounts,” he alleged.

Shehbaz said that the PTI itself had admitted it owned six foreign bank accounts, including in USA, UK, Australia, Finland and Norway. “This is my request to the ECP to make public all details it has admitted as well as it has concealed,” PML-N president said.
