Pakistan reiterates support for sovereignty of Somalia at OIC meeting

Pakistan has rejected Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a separate country during an extraordinary session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the report, speaking at the council session, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar condemned Israel’s unilateral move, describing it as a violation of Somalia’s internationally recognised borders.

Ishaq Dar emphasised that Israel’s actions could undermine global and regional counter terrorism efforts and pose a threat to peace and security in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.

The Deputy Prime Minister said Pakistan strongly opposes the Israeli initiative and has joined other OIC member states in issuing a joint statement rejecting it.

He reiterated that Pakistan continues to support Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will maintain cooperation with the Somali government and people at all levels.
