Punjab launches Green Property Certificates to prevent land fraud
Certificate holders protected against claims and eligible for low-interest loans: Program currently active in 28 cities, set to expand province-wide
Lahore has joined other cities in the rollout of the Green Property Certificate, a new initiative aimed at verifying property ownership and eliminating disputes, fraud, and forgery, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to the report, under the scheme, property owners can obtain the certificate by verifying their property documents, which will be linked with NADRA for authentication, ensuring robust legal recognition.
The Green Property Certificate, approved by the Punjab government, guarantees that no one can make claims against the property of its holder.
Additionally, certificate holders may avail bank loans at relatively lower interest rates.
Certificates can be issued for all types of properties, including residential, commercial, and agricultural land, and will be available through Land Record Centres.
The fee for obtaining a Green Property Certificate is set at Rs950, and its issuance is currently underway in 28 cities, with plans to expand the program across the province in the next phase.
Authorities have hailed the initiative as a major step towards securing property rights, reducing disputes, and eliminating fraudulent practices in land ownership.
