Thick fog blankets national highways, shutting motorways across country

Thick fog continues to blanket most parts of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces, prompting the closure of several motorway sections as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.
According to details, the dense fog severely affected the routine life of citizens. Motorway M-1 was closed from Peshawar to Rakshai, M-2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Chakri, M-3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Sher Shah, M-5 from Sher Shah to Sukkur, M-11 from Lahore to Sambrial, and M-14 from Injara to Esa Khel were closed for all kinds of traffic.
Thick fog also gripped adjacent areas on the National Highway which include Lahore, Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, and Iqbal Nagar, Mian Channu, Khanewal, Multan, Basti Malook, Lodhran, and Bahawalpur, Ahmadpur Sharqia, Taranda Mohammad Pannah, Iqbalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, and Sadiqabad.
Visibility was also reduced from 10 to 30 meters from Sehwan to Larkana.
Spokesperson for the Motorway Police, Central Region, Syed Imran Ahmed, said the decision to close the motorways was taken to protect the lives and property of the public. He warned that lane violations during foggy conditions could lead to serious accidents.
The Motorway Police advised road users to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid unnecessary travel during fog.
Citizens were urged to prefer traveling during daylight hours, noting that safer travel times in fog are between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Drivers were instructed to use fog lights mandatorily, avoid overspeeding, and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. 
Motorists requiring guidance or assistance were advised to contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130.
The Motorway Police said updates regarding the reopening of closed sections would be shared as weather conditions improve.
