India accused of undermining Asian Cricket Council summit in Dhaka

India is allegedly orchestrating a campaign to sabotage the Asia Cricket Council (ACC)’s upcoming annual meeting, scheduled for July 24 in Dhaka, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday. 

According to sources, the Indian government and its cricket board are actively pressuring member nations to boycott the event.

ACC president Mohsin Naqvi had officially called the annual meeting in Dhaka, with member nations expected to gather by July 23.
However, India, along with Sri Lanka, has openly opposed the meeting, demanding its postponement and a change of venue.

Reports suggested that India is pressuring member countries to skip the meeting, with some nations allegedly offered lucrative incentives to comply.

Sources claimed that ICC Chairman Jay Shah, who is also the BCCI secretary, is backing India’s efforts to sabotage the ACC gathering.

Sri Lanka and Oman have reportedly been forced to support India’s stance under pressure. Several member nations have allegedly been urged to write letters opposing the Dhaka meeting.

Despite India’s campaign, the majority of ACC members remain in favor of holding the meeting as planned.

However, if the situation escalates, it could lead to further tensions within the council.

Analysts suggested that India’s resistance stems from its ongoing political tensions with Bangladesh, the host country, as well as its opposition to Pakistan’s leadership in the ACC.

The ongoing conflict has heightened fears of a wide potential split within the Asian cricket bloc.

If India’s pressure tactics succeed, the future of ACC’s governance could be at stake.

However, if the meeting proceeds, it may further expose the deep divisions in Asian cricket politics.
