Jessica Simpson announces new music on 45th birthday

American singer and actress Jessica Simpson has made a heartfelt return to music as she marked her 45th birthday with the announcement of a new song from her upcoming album Nashville Canyon, Part 2.

Taking to Instagram, Simpson shared a celebratory message with fans, saying she was starting her new year “on the bright side,” and revealed that her new song, “Fade,” would be released soon. The track follows the first part of her album, which debuted in March, marking the end of a 15-year break from music.

The With You hitmaker also posted a symbolic video where she can be seen lip-syncing to the new track, dressed in a faux fur coat and writing the song’s title on a bathroom wall with lipstick.

Simpson explained her new music is deeply personal and rooted in faith and introspection. “It’s about surrendering, letting my voice be my main guide, and trusting the journey ahead,” she shared earlier on Instagram. “Always inviting God into the room where music creates itself… and allowing the music to be my main voice.”

The pop icon’s emotional journey back to her musical roots was inspired by her daughter, Maxwell, who reminded her of the spiritual comfort found in classic gospel music. A visit to Franklin, Tennessee, where Jessica recorded her first gospel record at the age of 15, reconnected her with her musical beginnings.

“My daughter said her favourite song was I Saw the Light by Hank Williams, and that she wanted to go where the light is,” Simpson recalled. “That’s what brought me back.”

Simpson’s upcoming track Fade is part of a wider musical journey that speaks to her experiences as a mother, an artist, and a woman seeking purpose beyond the spotlight. The singer also recently performed Breadcrumbs during a live event, marking her first stage appearance in over a decade.

Her return has been praised for embracing authenticity, moving away from industry pressures she faced earlier in her career. “I needed to forget who they told me to be,” she said during her live performance.
