‘My dad said, I’m really sorry’, Mira Sethi opens up about healing family bonds
Pakistani actress and writer Mira Sethi has shared an emotional reflection on her relationship with her parents, revealing that true closeness only developed in recent years after decades of emotional distance.
During her appearance on Excuse Me with Ahmad Ali Butt, Mira candidly spoke about growing up with renowned journalists Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin, admitting that while they always provided support, their demanding careers left little room for emotional connection during her childhood.
Recalling how their relationship evolved, she said:
"My relationship with my parents grew close in the last five years because life happened, and I moved back to their home. They held space for me. They were busy their whole lives internally, externally they were very career oriented. Seeing them confident and resilient gave me and Ali the confidence to become who we are today. But the emotional closeness only came in the last five years."
Mira explained that as she entered her twenties and thirties, reading books about childhood psychology made her realize how deeply early life experiences shape a person's emotional well-being. That understanding encouraged her to have honest conversations with her parents about the impact their absence had on her growing up.
She revealed that those conversations brought unexpected healing, as both of her parents acknowledged her feelings.
"My dad said, 'I'm really sorry. I was too busy. Your mother and I led very hectic lives,'" she shared, adding that her mother also apologized and expressed a desire to make up for the lost time.
Reflecting on the experience, Mira emphasized that she no longer holds resentment toward her parents. Instead, she now understands that they were navigating the pressures of demanding careers while raising a family, and that healing began when both sides were willing to listen and communicate openly.
It is worth mentioning, Mira Sethi is the daughter of veteran journalist and political analyst Najam Sethi and journalist, publisher, and former politician Jugnu Mohsin. Alongside her successful acting career in dramas such as ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Yaqeen Ka Safar’, and ‘Neem’, she is also an accomplished author known for speaking candidly about mental health, relationships, and personal growth.
