Mercury shoots to 49°C as blazing sun roasts many cities

There was no escape from the searing heat as the blazing sun baked many cities throughout Pakistan with temperatures touching the 49-degree centigrade mark on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Temperatures hit 47°C in cities like Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, and Dadu, 48°C in DG Khan, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Jacobabad, and Mandi Bahauddin, while Bannu, Sargodha, Noorpur Thal, and Sibi recorded 49°C. 

Mercury touched up to 46°C in Nawabshah, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, and Islamabad. Temperatures are expected to remain 5 to 7 degrees above normal in northern regions, and 4 to 6 degrees above normal in southern regions, between 11th and 12th of June. 

Scorching sun began heating up Lahore Wednesday morning as the National Weather Forecasting Centre has dismissed any chance of rain.

The maximum temperature in Lahore was expected to shoot up to 46°C today.

Karachi also remained under the grip of intense heat. Despite the current temperature being 31°C, it feels like 35°C.

PDMA stated that by June 13, temperature is likely to rise by another 7 degrees.

Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures, since the heatwave will continue until Thursday.
