Naqvi vows federal support for KP Police, CTD during Peshawar visit
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday visited the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Headquarters in Peshawar, where he pledged continued federal support to strengthen the province's police force and counterterrorism capabilities.
During the visit, Naqvi paid homage to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty by visiting the Martyrs' Memorial. He laid a floral wreath, offered Fateha and praised the sacrifices rendered by police martyrs in the fight against terrorism.
The interior minister also inspected modern equipment available to the force, including advanced weapons, night-vision devices and other technology used in security and counterterrorism operations.
Zulfiqar Hameed briefed the minister on the capabilities of the force and the latest equipment being deployed to enhance operational effectiveness.
Naqvi later chaired a special meeting at the police headquarters attended by Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed, Nazir Gada, the head of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other senior officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Naqvi said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police was on the front lines of Pakistan's fight against terrorism and had made invaluable sacrifices to maintain peace and security.
"The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is on the frontline in the war against terrorism," he said.
The minister said the government was prioritising the provision of modern weapons, equipment and technology to the province's police force.
"Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is being equipped with modern technology, weapons and equipment on a priority basis," he said.
Naqvi said the federal and provincial governments were working together to strengthen the operational capacity of both the police and the CTD.
"The federal and provincial governments are jointly providing all necessary resources to enhance the capabilities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and CTD, and this support will continue in the future," he said.
He also assured the province's law enforcement agencies of full federal assistance in modern counterterrorism training and capacity-building initiatives.
The interior minister praised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's decision to increase the police budget, calling it a positive step toward strengthening the force's capacity to tackle evolving security challenges.
The visit comes as security forces and law enforcement agencies continue operations against militant groups in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has witnessed a rise in terrorist incidents in recent years.
