Senior Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif had a telephonic talk on Thursday in which they renewed their pledge to ensure their candidates’ win in elections for the seats of Senate chairman as well as deputy chairman, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari said that PDM had a majority in the Senate, and he was hopeful that both of its candidates Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri would win their respective elections.
Concurring with Zardari’s point, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the PDM candidates had an edge over their rival candidates because of the numerical strength of the opposition parties in the House and vowed to expose the government if the latter resorted to horse-trading, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif said the aim of opposition parties’ alliance was to get rid of ‘incompetent’ rulers.
The three leaders exchanged views on how to ensure the victory of two PDM candidates.
Meanwhile, PDM leaders met with the secretary Senate on Thursday and received their nomination papers.
PPP’s Sherry Rehman received papers on behalf of Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani while Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri received the papers himself.
PPP Senator Islamuddin Sheikh is also hosting a dinner for the PDM senators in Islamabad today night which will also be attended by the party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
