Increase in fines, token tax proposed to check traffic problems in Lahore
The traffic authorities have proposed to increase fines and increase token tax to curb the increasing traffic problems in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
According to proposals of traffic authorities, traffic police will increase fines on luxury vehicles and public transport commercial vehicles.
To increase the use of public transport, the annual tax of all vehicles should also be increased by 100 percent.
Fines for luxury vehicles should be increased five times from Rs300-500 to Rs1500-2500.
Fines for commercial vehicles should be increased from Rs500-1,000 to Rs1,500-3,000.
Increasing fines will reduce violations of traffic rules and increasing token tax will reduce the tendency of personal vehicles and increase the tendency of public transport.
Relevant institutions should cooperate for simplification of fines and taxes.
In this regard, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore sent recommendations to the court after the approval of the IG Punjab to control traffic problems and control violations.
