Manhole death of child on Lahore outskirts draws higher authorities' attention

A tragic incident involving the death of a two-and-a-half-year-old child, Fahad, occurred in the Raiwind area, prompting swift action from police authorities.

Faisal Kamran, DIG Operations Lahore, took notice of the incident on Wednesday and sought a detailed report from the SP Saddar. He ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances that led to the child’s death, reportedly caused by an open manhole.

According to a spokesperson, police have initiated legal proceedings at Raiwind Police Station and arrested two suspects identified as Yasin and Zain. The accused are alleged to have opened the manhole in order to dispose of sewage water.

Police officials said further investigations are underway to collect additional evidence and determine all those responsible for the negligence.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran emphasized that negligence in protecting the lives and property of citizens will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed authorities to take strict legal action against those responsible for leaving manholes uncovered or creating hazardous drainage points.

He also urged relevant institutions to play a responsible role in ensuring public safety and preventing such incidents in the future.

In a related development, the deputy commissioner of Lahore took notice of the tragic incident in Raiwind and visited the site where the child fell into the open manhole. During the visit, the deputy commissioner ordered strict action against those responsible for negligence.

The Raiwind assistant commissioner briefed the deputy commissioner on the details of the incident and the steps taken so far against those responsible. Officials informed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident.

The deputy commissioner also directed authorities to immediately inspect manholes across the entire Raiwind tehsil to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic death of the child, the deputy commissioner said he was heartbroken and shared the grief of the bereaved family. He added that the district administration remains committed to ensuring the safety and protection of citizens.
