Issuing a contempt of court notice to DIG Investigation Shahzada Sultan for misreporting the facts, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered him to appear in the court immediately, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The court also ordered the arrest of DSP Baghbanpura Muhammad Yaqub Awan and other police officers.
During the hearing of an application filed by Robina Kausar, acting chief justice of the LHC Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan asked when the police had given a statement in the court that it compiled a report in which it was confirmed that the case had been disposed of, then why the police went ahead with inquiry in the case. “How on earth you declared the petitioners guilty in the case?” he inquired from the DSP Baghbanpura.
And when the DSP failed to give a satisfactory answer, the judge ordered his and other police officers arrest.
Robina, in her petition, had stated that Muhammad Saeed Bhatti had lodged a complaint against her and her husband Riyasat Ali in North Cantonment police station for allegedly committing dishonesty with him following which both of them approached the LHC, which, in 2021, disposed of the petition in the light of the police’s report, which had confirmed that the case had been settled.
“But even after the court order, DSP Baghbanpura went ahead with the inquiry and declared me and my husband guilty in the case. Therefore, it is prayed to the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the DIG Investigation and other police officers,” read the petition.
