Jackie Chan dismisses retirement rumours as he returns in Karate Kid: Legends

Martial arts icon Jackie Chan has officially quashed speculation about his retirement, confirming he has no plans to step away from the spotlight as he gears up for his return in Karate Kid: Legends.

The 71-year-old actor, known globally for his daredevil stunts and unmatched dedication, is reprising his beloved role as Mr. Han after a 15-year hiatus from the franchise. Speaking during the film’s global promotional tour, Chan reaffirmed his commitment to performing his own stunts.

“Of course, I always do my own stunts. It’s who I am. That’s not changing until the day I retire, which is never,” Chan said, dismissing any notion of slowing down.

With a career that spans more than six decades, Chan described stunt work as embedded in his very being. “Everything is in your heart and soul; it is muscle memory,” he added.

Reflecting on the evolution of action filmmaking, Chan acknowledged the rise of digital effects in modern cinema. While praising the creative freedom CGI brings, he cautioned that the realism and physical risk that defined his career are increasingly rare. “In the old days, the only choice was to be there and jump,” he said. “Today, computers can make anything look real—but something is missing.”

Directed by Jonathan Entwistle, Karate Kid: Legends is slated for release on May 30, and promises to reignite fan enthusiasm for the classic martial arts saga.
