Govt cuts port charges for int’l transshipments at Gwadar
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Monday announced a major reduction in tariffs at Gwadar Port to boost global transit traffic, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The minister said that berthing fees for container ships have been reduced by 25 percent, while port charges on international transshipment containers have been cut by 40 per cent.
He added that port charges on transit container cargo have also been reduced by up to 31pc.
Free storage will also be provided for one month. Junaid Anwar Chaudhary said that big relief was announced for transit and transshipment cargo
He said that the best facilities are being provided at Gwadar ports as compared to other ports. Junaid Anwar Chaudhary hoped that after a decrease in transshipment fees, cargo handling would be increased and economic activities would be further enhanced.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhary expressed the hope that the logistics sector will be expanded and more employment opportunities will be generated.
Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Chairman Noorul Haq Baloch said that more employment opportunities will be available at Gwadar Port.
He said that the new tariff structure will help to promote trade and other economic activities.
