Islamabad Safe City upgradation to turn capital into modern smart city

Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has announced that all relevant institutions operating under Islamabad’s Safe City system will be brought together on a single digital platform as part of efforts to transform the federal capital into a modern smart city.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the announcement was made during a special meeting chaired by the interior minister at the Islamabad Safe City Headquarters, where officials reviewed progress on the plan to convert the existing Safe City project into a Capital Smart City initiative.

During the meeting, officials briefed the minister on the establishment of a fusion centre and a modern control room.

The minister was informed that all essential equipment had already been provided and installation work was continuing. Authorities said the upgraded digital system would become operational by 30 May.

Mohsin Naqvi also inspected renovation and upgradation work at the Safe City Headquarters and directed officials to complete Phase Two of the Safe City project within the stipulated timeframe.

Addressing the meeting, the interior minister said the control room should be aligned with modern technological requirements and international standards.

He added that all relevant institutions would be integrated through a unified platform within the Safe City framework.

He said the project would prove to be an important milestone in providing the residents of Islamabad with a safe and peaceful environment.

Senior officials who attended the meeting included Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, FIA Director General Dr Usman Anwar, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi and Safe City Director General Haroon Joiya.

Last month, on 6 April, a separate meeting chaired by Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad approved the broader plan to transform the existing Safe City project into a Capital Smart City initiative.

During that session, officials reviewed progress on the second phase of the Islamabad Safe City project. The minister said the upgraded system would introduce modern solutions for traffic management and crime prevention, adding that all available resources were being utilised to strengthen security arrangements in the federal capital.

The meeting also approved a new design for the Safe City Headquarters as part of the wider modernisation programme.
