PTI has had no contact with government over talks yet, says Barrister Gohar

Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan Monday said that no contact had yet been established between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the government regarding possible negotiations, while warning against further political polarization and stressing the need for democratic stability in the country, reported 24NerwsHD TV channel.

Speaking at Parliament House, Barrister Gohar said that previous efforts for dialogue had suffered setbacks due to what he described as PTI’s “struggle for truth” and the prevailing political situation.

“We have not yet had any contact with the government regarding negotiations,” he said, adding that earlier engagement between the two sides had witnessed interruptions.

Referring to recent national developments, the PTI chairman said the nation had demonstrated unity and solidarity in difficult times and had collectively defeated the enemy.

He also criticised the government’s political approach, saying it should avoid pushing the opposition towards a deadlock situation.

“Tell the government that if they leave us at a crossroads and continue moving forward alone, then development will not be possible,” he said.

Barrister Gohar also expressed reservations over a documentary aired on Pakistan Television Corporation, alleging that PTI’s version was excluded despite his request.

“When the PTV documentary was being prepared, our statement was not included despite my request,” he said, adding that such documentaries become part of the official historical record and therefore should present all sides fairly.

Calling truth “the essence of political struggle,” he said the government had effectively sidelined parliament and weakened democratic traditions.

“In democratic systems, importance is given to the people, but unfortunately that is not the case in Pakistan,” he remarked.

Addressing reports regarding administrative and constitutional matters, Barrister Gohar said no legislation should be introduced that could create divisions among the people.

“A province cannot be divided unless two-thirds of that province votes in favour of it,” he said, warning against measures that could deepen political or regional divides.

The PTI chairman also spoke about legal proceedings involving PTI founder Imran Khan, claiming that central appeals were being prioritised over bail matters.

He cautioned that adverse judicial decisions against Imran Khan and his wife would not send a positive signal for the country’s political environment.

“If the judiciary issues negative orders against the PTI founder and his wife, it will not be a good omen,” he said.

Barrister Gohar further stated that the party leadership was trying to keep the political situation under control but warned that circumstances could deteriorate if tensions continued to rise.

“We are controlling things, otherwise matters could go out of control,” he said while urging the judiciary to understand the prevailing national situation.

He added that PTI was also shaping its political strategy according to the changing circumstances in the country and appealed to courts to consider public sentiment while deciding bail matters.

The PTI chairman also demanded that Imran Khan be provided access to his family members, lawyers and personal doctors.
