Three bodies recovered after car plunges into Basirpur-Rajowal link canal
12-year-old boy miraculously survived
A search and rescue operation concluded after a car that fell into the Basirpur–Rajowal link canal was recovered along with the bodies of three missing persons, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
According to rescue officials, the incident occurred a day earlier when a vehicle carrying four people plunged into the canal.
A 12-year-old boy, identified as Munam Rasool, miraculously survived and managed to get out safely from the water.
Following the incident, teams from Rescue 1122 immediately reached the site and launched a large-scale search operation to locate the missing passengers and the submerged vehicle.
According to officials, around 30 rescuers, eight divers and four boats participated in the operation.
The Gujranwala water rescue team also assisted in the search efforts.
The operation was supervised by District Emergency Officer Zafar Iqbal.
Rescue teams used multiple techniques, including scuba diving, sonar scanning, pole searching, rope-based sweeping, and a 150-foot metal wire sweep system during the operation.
Officials said the vehicle was traced at a depth and distance of around 200 meters using wire search techniques.
Divers later retrieved the car with the help of ropes.
The bodies of all three victims were recovered, completed the necessary legal formalities, and handed over to their families.
