Motorway rape incident: IGP forms special team to arrest culprits

Punjab Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani on Thursday constituted a six-member special investigation team to arrest the culprits of Motorway rape incident in Lahore’s Gujjarpura area.
According to a notification issued by IGP office, DIG Investigation Lahore Shehzada Sultan will lead the team. The other members are RO Special Branch Jahanzeb Nazir, SSP Investigation Zeeshan Ashgar, RO CTD Naseeb Ullah Khan, CIA SP Asim Iftikhar and Fiza Azam, Incharge Gender Crimes, Civil Lines Lahore.

Earlier, talking to the media on Thursday evening, Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh said that woman’s medical report has confirmed that she was raped. He said that three villages are located around the crime scene and evidence has already been collected. He said that investigation into the woman’s rape would mostly rely on DNA tests.
He said that CCTV footage has been collected from the areas around the crime scene, but it is not clear enough to identify the accused. He said the woman and her husband are French nationals.
