The 279th Urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai has begun at his shrine, 24NewsHD TV channel Sunday. 

The three-day Urs activities consist of a literary conference scheduled for the concluding day and excellent performance awards will also be given to noted personalities.

Acting Governor Agha Siraj Durani formally opened the commemorations by laying a 'Chadar' at the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai

Special prayers for peace and prosperity were offered. Talking to the media the acting governor said heavy rains and floods caused e huge destruction in Sindh.

Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was born in 1752. The Sindhi Sufi grew up in Kotri Mughal.

At the age of 20, the great Sindhi language poet left home and travelled throughout the province and neighboring lands and had meetings with many a mystic and Jogis whose influence is evident in his poetry.  His spirituality attracted a large following. Spending the last years of his life at Bhit Shah, he died in 1752.
