Irregularities worth millions in Sindh Education Department scholarships revealed 

A report issued by Auditor General of Pakistan has revealed irregularities worth millions of rupees in Sindh Education Department scholarships, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The Auditor General of Pakistan’s report revealed that a check of Rs29.8 million was issued to a fake NGO which was issued by Endowment Fund College Education.

The check was issued in the name of Laila Ali, the wife of a former section officer Gulzar Ahmed Memon.

The check was transferred to the Sukkur branch of Dubai Islamic Bank.

The check was issued in the name of the fake NGO Asri Islamic Foundation and Rs3.7 million were withdrawn from the bank. 

Later, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) froze the bank account. A sum of Rs26.2 million is in the bank.

The Auditor General of Pakistan recommended action against the concerned officers.

The matter has been pending since October 2021 and no action has been taken. 

The Auditor General’s report was presented in the Sindh Assembly and the matter was referred to the Public Accounts Committee.
