NEOC releases report of poliovirus cases in Pakistan

The National Emergency Operations Centre for Polio Eradication (NEOC) on Tuesday released a detailed report regarding the collection of polio samples for the month of July 2025, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the report, 125 samples were collected to detect poliovirus from 87 districts during the month of July, 2025.

Balochistan reported one case of polio virus in July 2025. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 7. Poliovirus was detected in 12 districts of Punjab while 3 cases were reported from Islamabad.

No sample of polio virus was found in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Galgit Baltistan.

Polio is a highly infectious viral disease that primarily affects young children and can cause permanent paralysis. There is no cure, but it can be prevented through multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and a complete routine immunization schedule, experts say.

Pakistan, one of only two countries in the world where polio remains endemic, the other being neighboring Afghanistan, has made significant gains in recent decades. Annual cases have fallen dramatically from an estimated 20,000 in the early 1990s to single digits by 2018.
