PHC bars ECP from giving verdict in PTI intra-party elections case

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday barred the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from giving verdict in the PTI’s intra-party elections case unless it gave its decision on the party’s petition in which it had challenged the ECP’s notice, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The court issued a notice to the election commission.

Later the court adjourned the case’s hearing until December 19.

PTI had approached the PHC after the ECP admitted the petitions filed by former information secretary and founding member of PTI Akbar S Babar and a dozen others, including leaders of mainstream political parties, the PML-N and the PPP, against the party’s intra-party elections.

The ECP, on the first hearing of the case on Friday, issued a notice to the PTI in response to pleas in which it had been alleged the intra-party polls were “rigged and fraudulent”.
