Punjab CM announces multi-billion-rupee projects for Mianwali

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday announced multi-billion-rupee development projects for Mianwali, including the establishment of a medical college in the district.

She also announced the establishment of an allied college for nurses and other health professionals, as well as agricultural and law colleges in Mianwali. In addition, the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital is being upgraded to the status of a teaching hospital.

Maryam announced the launch of the “Apna Khet Apni Zameen” project across Punjab, under which landless farmers will be given 300,000 acres of agricultural land. Each eligible farmer will receive five acres on a 25-year lease for cultivation. She received a warm welcome upon her arrival in Mianwali, with large crowds gathering along the routes and showering her with flowers.

Addressing the gathering, she conveyed greetings from Nawaz Sharif and thanked the people of Mianwali—women, mothers, daughters, elders, and youth—for their love and support. She said that although Mianwali may appear distant on the map, it is close to her heart.

She noted that she has visited Mianwali multiple times over the past two years and recalled that during her first visit, she struggled to see visible signs of development. She emphasized that her government believes in delivering results rather than merely making promises.

Highlighting recent initiatives in the district, the chief minister mentioned the launch of the Green Bus service, road development under the Suthra Punjab programme, and the establishment of a cardiac catheterization lab providing free heart treatment locally.

She congratulated residents on these new facilities, noting that the Green Bus service is free for senior citizens, students, and children, while women can travel free in designated compartments.

Maryam said the new medical college would enable local students to pursue medical education without leaving the district. The proposed law and agricultural colleges, she added, would expand educational opportunities and support local farmers.

She stressed that her government is committed to ensuring equal development across Punjab and said residents would no longer need to travel elsewhere to access their rights and basic services.

Reiterating her commitment to public welfare, the chief minister said landless farmers would receive agricultural land and support through farmer cards. She added that clean drinking water projects, free medicines, and free surgeries are being provided in public hospitals.

She also highlighted agricultural support measures, including the distribution of tractors and machinery, as well as social welfare initiatives such as ration cards and financial assistance programmes.

Maryam concluded by expressing confidence that continued efforts in the coming years would transform Punjab’s future and bring sustained development and prosperity to Mianwali and the entire province.
