ICC Test rankings: Afridi, Hassan among top 10 bowlers

January 12, 2022 03:41 PM

ICC ranked Shaheen Shah Afridi at fourth best bowler in the latest Test rankings released by the cricket council as the pacer lost one point and slipped at fourth from third position. On the other hand, Hassan Ali with two points up, now reached among the top 10 bowlers of the test cricket.

Skipper Babar Azam retained its eight best test batter in the latest ICC rankings.

From the fourth Ashes Test to the battle between South African and India in Johannesburg, several players have made moves near the top of the ICC Test batting and bowling rankings.

Australians now hold the top and third spots on the ICC Test batting rankings, with only Joe Root separating Marnus Labuschagne (remaining in top spot) and Steve Smith, who has leapfrogged Kane Williamson to enter the top three.

Labuschagne's 28 and 29 were enough to distance himself from Joe Root, who made 0 and 24, while in South Africa, captain Dean Elgar's courageous and match-winning knock of 96* has seen him jump four places into tenth.

On the bowling side, Kyle Jamieson's match figures of (6/114) has led to a eight-spot jump, while Kagiso Rabada's six wickets has seen him jump a spot to fifth.

Outside of the top ten, there were a number of big movers.

After twin hundreds in the fourth Ashes Test at the SCG, Usman Khawaja has rocketed back into the Test batting ranking fray, re-entering at 26th.

The left-hander made 137 and 101* across the two innings at the ground he made his Test debut 11 years ago, though the Australians were unable to take the last wicket for victory in the fourth Ashes Test.

Across the Tasman Sea, a number of batters made moves from New Zealand's second Test match against Bangladesh.

Liton Das (up 17 places to 15th) and Devon Conway (up 18 places to 29th) were the main movers with the bat, while Ebadot Hossain (up 17 places to 88th) to and Shoriful Islam (up 34 places to 104th) were the notable climbers on the bowling side of the rankings.

In the ODI rankings, Irish and West Indies players made moves after the two teams faced off in Jamaica earlier in the week.

Andrew Balbirnie made a move of five places to 35th after making a fifty in his side's defeat to the hosts, with Harry Tector jumping eight places to his highest ranking of 62nd following his score of (XXX). West Indies captain Kieron Pollard moved up to 86th on his return to the fifty-over game, with Shamarh Brooks, the Player of the Match, entering at 218th.

On the bowling side, left-arm orthodox bowler Akeal Hosein has continued to show his mettle in the international game, climbing three places to 61st after (XX). On the other side Mark Adair jumped 15 places to 99th, with Curtis Campher moving 16 places to 169th.
