Achakzai set to become opposition leader in NA, says PTI chief
The seat of the opposition leader, which has been vacant since August 7, is set to be officially filled, PTI Chairman Barrister Gauhar confirmed on Monday.
Speaking about the development, Gohar said the National Assembly speaker has finalized the procedure in coordination with their party.
"Today, the Speaker has made the announcement and decided on the procedure with us," he said. "Tomorrow, we will submit the necessary documents, and Insha Allah, the notification of Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the opposition leader will be issued by Thursday."
The appointment comes after months of uncertainty over the opposition leadership in the assembly, and Gohar’s statement indicates that the formal process is now moving swiftly toward completion.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai, a veteran politician, is expected to assume the responsibilities of opposition leader following the issuance of the official notification.
