Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi and son make history playing together in BPL

Afghanistan cricket legend Mohammad Nabi and his son Hassan Ismail Khail have made history by playing together for the same team in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), becoming the first father-son duo in T20 cricket to do so.

Representing Noakhali Express, the duo put on a 53-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with 19-year-old Hassan scoring a brilliant 92 runs off 60 balls, including 7 fours and 5 sixes, guiding his team’s innings.

Before the match, Mohammad Nabi ceremoniously handed the Noakhali cap to his son.

“I am thrilled to play alongside my son. I’ve waited a long time for this moment. He has performed brilliantly on his debut,” Nabi said, adding that he had spent 90 minutes preparing him the day before, advising him on the types of deliveries he might face.

Hassan Ismail Khail said, “We are good friends. My father is firm but fair during training. Playing for Afghanistan’s national team is my dream.”

The match ended with Noakhali Express defeating Dhaka Capitals by 41 runs, a crucial win following heavy criticism after the team’s first six matches. Hassan’s inclusion and performance were seen as a key boost for the team.

The father-son duo’s appearance on the same field is being celebrated as a milestone in cricket history, inspiring fans and young players alike.
