Judicial Commission confirms three IHC Judges, approves one for BHC
Justice Najamuddin Mengal confirmed to Balochistan High Court; Justice Ayub Khan not approved: Three IHC additional judges Justice Inam Ameen Minhas, Justice Azam Khan and Justice Muhammad Asif granted permanent status
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, approved the permanent appointment of three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), including Justice Inam Ameen Minhas, Justice Azam Khan and Justice Muhammad Asif.
In a separate session, the Commission also confirmed Balochistan High Court (BHC) Additional Judge Najamuddin Mengal, while deciding not to confirm Justice Ayub Khan for permanent elevation.
The JCP held three significant meetings today to finalise judicial appointments and review rules introduced under the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi presided over all three sessions.
The first sitting, held at 1:30 pm, dealt with judges’ appointments and the rules framed following the amendment. The second session, scheduled for 2 pm, considered the confirmation of the three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court.
The third meeting, convened at 2:30 pm, reviewed the cases of two additional judges of the Balochistan High Court. The Commission confirmed Justice Najamuddin Mengal but did not grant permanent status to Justice Ayub Khan.
It is pertinent to mention that the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on January 3, 2026, that an important meeting of the JCP will be held on January 15 to discuss making permanent 13 additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
As per the report, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi will also preside over the meeting, while LHC Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Aalia Neelum, the federal law minister and the attorney general of Pakistan will attend the meeting.
Nine additional judges were appointed on February 10, 2025, while four were appointed on March 4, 2025. The judges are Justice Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Justice Waqar Haider Awan, Justice Sardar Akbar Ali Dogar, Justice Syed Ahsan Raza, Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Jawad Zafar, Justice Khalid Ishaq, Justice Awais Khalid, Justice Sultan Mehmood, Justice Raja Ghazanfar Ali, Justice Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh, Justice Tariq Mehmood Bajwa and Justice Abhar Gul Khan.
