US cancels over 100,000 visas in 2025, including 8,000 student permits
The United States has cancelled more than 100,000 visas so far this year, including around 8,000 student visas and 2,500 special work permits, as part of a sweeping crackdown under stricter immigration enforcement measures, 24NewsHD TV reported.
According to the US State Department, the cancelled visas span multiple categories, including tourist, student, skilled worker, and other non-immigrant visas.
Officials said the action targets foreign nationals found to have criminal records or evidence of legal violations, even after their entry into the United States.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, the State Department said visa cancellations and deportations will continue to ensure national security and keep the country safe.

The move comes amid tighter immigration and visa policies during the Trump administration, under which visa holders are now subject to post-entry monitoring to detect arrests, convictions, or other legal issues that could lead to cancellation.
India, which accounts for the largest share of US visa holders, has been directly impacted by the policy shift.
While US embassies issued over one million non-immigrant visas to Indian nationals for the second consecutive year, official data shows a notable decline in student visas in 2025.
Authorities attribute the decline to stricter screening, longer interviews, and enhanced background checks.
Indian professionals on H-1B work visas are also facing growing uncertainty, particularly as a proposed $100,000 fee for new H-1B applications is under consideration and currently being challenged in US courts.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs has acknowledged concerns over visa cancellations, stating that it is closely monitoring the situation, remains in contact with affected citizens, and has formally raised the issue with Washington.
