Much-needed respite for people as rain lashes parts of Punjab
Temperatures plummeted after rain lashed different parts of the north-eastern and central Punjab on Sunday morning, bringing respite to people from intense heat and humidity that had made their lives miserable for the past several days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Heavy rain buffeted Mandi Bahaudiin, Narowal, Shakargarh and surrounding areas, flooding roads and turning low-lying areas into pools of water.
Rain was also reported from Lahore, Nowshera Virkan, Pattoki, Kamonke, Pindi Bhattian and adjoining areas.
Cool breeze that followed turned the weather even more pleasant.
Temperatures drop in Lahore
Light to heavy rain, accompanied by cool breeze, turned the weather pleasant in Lahore.
The minimum temperature in the city of gardens was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius, while it was expected to rise to 33 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.
Winds were blowing in the city at the speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
Rain forecast for Islamabad
It was cloudy in Islamabad on Sunday morning, while the Met Office predicted it would rain in the federal capital in the evening.
The Met Office forecast that the maximum temperature in the city would touch the 32 degrees Celsius mark, while it remained 26 degrees Celsius on the minimum side.
The level of moisture in the air stood at over 90 per cent.
Breeze would blow in the city at the speed of 3 kilometers per hour.
Drizzle forecast for Karachi
It was partly cloudy and humid in Karachi in the morning.
The weather department said that it would drizzle in the port city during the next 24 hours, while the maximum temperature would be recorded at 35 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 28.5 degrees Celsius, while the level of humidity in the air stood at 82 per cent.
The maximum temperature was expected to fluctuate between 33 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius.
Winds were blowing in the city from the south-west at the speed of 27 kilometers per hour.
On Saturday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) alerted the authorities about possible landslides and floods in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and KP after the Met Office forecast heavy rains for most parts of the country from July 11 to July 14.
The Met Office said that from today, moist currents from the Arabian Sea would gain in strength, while a westerly wave would also start affecting the country.
“Resultantly, rain, accompanied by strong winds, will lash the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, and most of the areas in Punjab, KP, AJK and GB today and tomorrow,” the Met Office said, adding that it might rain cats and dogs at a few places.
Elaborating further, it said that in Punjab, thundershowers were likely in Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and their surrounding areas during the aforementioned period.
Rain, heavy at a few places, was also forecast for several parts of AJK and GB until July 13 and July 12, respectively.
The Met Office also predicted rains, heavy at a few places, for different areas of KP, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Malakand, Kohat, Bannu, Mansehra, Waziristan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Battagram, Shangla and Kurram today and tomorrow.
In Sindh, it said showers were expected at Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Khairpur and outskirts.
It said that there might be heavy rainfall at some places.
The Met Office forecast rain for different parts of eastern Balochistan namely Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, Sheerani, Ziarat, Sibbi, Kohlu, and Dera Bugti today and tomorrow.
It said rain was also likely in areas of southern Balochistan namely Khuzdar, Awaran, Lasbela, Gwadar and surroundings.
