PPP to hold protest demos against govt's economic policies

Senior PPP leader Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad said on Thursday that the party would hold countrywide protest demonstrations against the present government’s economic policies, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

“We will go to every extent,” he said, adding, “And the government will be responsible for the consequences.”

He further said that today Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the raise in the salaries of the National Assembly speaker and Senate chairman was ‘financial obscenity’. “He must bear this thing in mind that the raise in the salaries of federal ministers, parliamentarians and judges is also a ‘financial obscenity’.”

On the other hand, the PPP leader added, farmers were suffering immensely. “Today, even the World Bank (WB) has said that billions of people in the country are living below the poverty line. 

Manzoor said that no segment of the society was pleased with the government. “The production of five major crops in the country, including cotton and rice, is low. Then how we can expect that the country would advance in the agriculture sector.”

He opined that the government was deliberately destroying the agriculture sector so that labour could be available in cities at cheaper rates. “The PPP had demanded 50 per cent raise in salaries. But you cared only for the elite, and not for the masses.”
