Ethics kahan gaye? Maya Khan calls out smokers for lack of consideration
Pakistani actress and host Maya Khan has sparked a conversation on social media after candidly addressing a common issue that many non-smokers face people smoking in shared indoor spaces without considering those around them.
A viral video circulating online shows the actress expressing her frustration over the lack of basic etiquette displayed by some smokers, particularly on busy production sets where artists, crew members, and junior performers spend long hours together.
Speaking openly about the matter, Maya said that after witnessing the same behaviour repeatedly, she no longer has the patience to stay silent.
“We are usually on set with people from all walks of life junior artists, senior actors, and everyone in between. But after seeing this happen so often, I can't help but speak up,” she remarked.
The actress emphasized that if someone wishes to smoke, they should do so in an open outdoor space rather than around people who do not smoke.
“If you want to smoke a cigarette, go outside and smoke in the fresh air. No one is stopping you,” she said. “But if you're sitting in a place where other people are present, especially non-smokers, then ethically you should ask whether they are comfortable with it.”
Maya further pointed out that while people are quick to complain, criticize, and discuss various issues, many still fail to follow the most basic social manners.
“People have learned how to talk, complain, and point out flaws in others, but somehow basic ethics are still missing,” she stated. “If you're sharing a space with others, the least you can do is ask whether cigarette smoke bothers them.”
The actress concluded her remarks by strongly criticizing the attitude of those who continue smoking around others despite knowing it may make people uncomfortable.

“You can easily step outside and smoke in the open air, so why force others to endure it? This attitude of ‘we'll do whatever we want’ is simply pathetic. Seriously, it is,” she added.
