In a surprising development, police on Tuesday imposed a ban on the media coverage outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on the day which has been reserved for meetings with the former prime minister and ex-PTI chairman Imran Khan, reported 24NewsHD TV.

Journalists cover the speeches and media talk of the PTI leaders and others when they come out of the jail after meeting Imran, who is currently serving a prison term there.

The police also placed barriers outside the area designated for the parking of news channels’ vehicles, which is opposite the Gate No. 5 of the jail.

When asked, one of the security personnel said that there would be no media coverage today. “Media teams should stand at two kilometers distance from the jail,” he said.

Islamabad High Court disposes of PTI leader’s plea

On the other hand, the Islamabad High Court disposed of the petition filed by PTI leader Mushtaq Ghani, seeking the court order to the Adiala Jail administration to allow him to meet Imran Khan, with the direction that he should follow the proper procedure.

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq, who heard Ghani’s petition, said in his remarks that the court had already given instructions that in this regard Imran should appoint a focal person who would arrange his meetings with the party leaders as well as others.
