Nick Jonas childhood friend Maya Kibbel passes away
Singer and actor Nick Jonas is grieving the loss of his close childhood friend, Maya Kibbel, who passed away at the age of 30 after a long battle with the rare genetic disorder Wilson’s disease.
Maya Kibbel, whom Nick often described as a sister, collapsed on March 7, and despite medical efforts, her heart and lungs stopped working, leading to her untimely death.
Her mother, Kiyoko Kibbel, shared an emotional post confirming the news and detailing the pain Maya endured during her illness.
“Maya had been suffering from a rare disease called Wilson’s disease. She fought hard but her body gave out… She has entered into Heaven where she can be with her daddy with no more pain or tears,” she wrote.
She also expressed her heartbreak and gratitude to those who loved and cared for Maya during her life.
Following the announcement, Nick Jonas shared a heartfelt tribute, writing, “My sister forever. Here for you always @coach_kibbel.”
Maya Kibbel had been a lifelong friend of the Jonas family, growing up alongside them and maintaining a close bond over the years.
Wilson’s disease, which Maya battled, is a rare inherited disorder that causes copper to accumulate in the body, potentially damaging the liver, brain, and other organs. Though treatable with early intervention and lifelong medication, the condition can be fatal if not managed effectively.
