PTI leaders barred from meeting Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, KP CM warns of tougher response

Leaders and parliamentarians of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were not allowed to meet PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi and members of the provincial assembly left from Factory Naka after being denied access.

According to reports, Imran Khan’s sisters remained present at Factory Naka along with party workers, while the chief minister later departed for Chakri Interchange.

Speaking to the media before leaving, CM Sohail Afridi criticized the authorities for preventing meetings with the PTI founder and his family. He said parliamentarians who had arrived at Adiala Jail were stopped and misbehaved with despite the administration being aware that the province’s chief executive was visiting.

“They knew the chief executive of the province was coming, but obstacles were created again,” he said, adding that PTI’s response would be “a little tougher” next time.

Afridi expressed concern over Imran Khan’s health and demanded that he be shifted to a hospital for treatment under the supervision of his family and personal doctor. He said the PTI founder was neither being allowed to meet his family nor his physician, claiming the authorities’ intentions appeared “dangerous.”

He criticized restrictions on meetings involving Imran Khan’s wife and family members, stating that the party’s demands were based on human rights and provisions already mentioned in the jail manual regarding prisoners’ medical treatment.

“The founder has been in jail for three years. He is not weak like those who fled to London by dropping fake platelets,” he remarked, while referring to reports of a serious eye problem faced by the PTI founder.

The chief minister warned that PTI leaders and supporters would return next Tuesday with a “strict attitude,” adding that the nature of the party’s response would become clear at that time.
