Lahore has once again stood second in the dirtiest cities of the world list with its air quality index touching 186 points triggering a health alarm, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The air quality in big cities of Pakistan including Lahore and Karachi has been termed extremely hazardous which are causing various ailments like lung damage, asthma, heart problem, bronchial infections, strokes, etc.

AQI was 351 in Shahdara, 254 in Defense and 241 in Anarkali. The pollution rate was 219 around the American Consulate and 207 on Syed Marat Ali Road. Citizens continued to fall ill due to the pollution of the air in the city. Complaints of other diseases including respiratory and throat increased.

On the other hand, the LWMC enforcement wing's anti-smog operations are ongoing. During the last ten days, 18 challans of thousands of rupees were issued for the crime of setting fire to garbage. Three cases were also registered for burning garbage.

The Global Alliance on Health and Pollution estimated in 2019 that 128,000 Pakistanis die annually due to air pollution-related illnesses. Decision-makers have been slow to react to the pollution problem.

According to the Air Quality Index Life, air pollution in Pakistan is reducing almost four years of the average age of its citizens, while the average life expectancy of those who breathe in the polluted air of Lahore is decreasing by 5 years.
