GB Govt term near end, Amir Muqam to hold key meeting with CM and Opposition leader
As the term of the Gilgit Baltistan government comes to an end, federal government has started consultations on interim set up with GB Chief Minister Gulbar Khan and Opposition leader Kazim Mesam, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
The term of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly ends on November 24, 2025.
A key meeting, which will be held in Islamabad, will review the names of the proposed caretaker Chief Minister. A meeting will be chaired by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam and attended by CM and opposition leader of the GB government.
The CM and the Opposition leader will present their names in the meeting. If the Chief Minister and the Opposition Leader agree on a name, it will be finalised. Otherwise, the matter will go to the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who will finalize the name among the lists of names given by the government and the opposition.
The sources said five names have emerged for the caretaker Chief Minister. The names of Waqar Mandooq, Raja Nazim-ul-Amin, Mustafa Madani, Dr. Anjum and Muhammad Ali Quaid are included in the list.
The name of Waqar Mandooq has been finalized by the opposition leader.
