Former prime minister and PML-N senior leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has deplored that NAB Chairman Justice ® Javed Iqbal has been retired four days ago but the government has not started any consultation process for the appointment of a new chief as yet believing that the incumbent seems to be appointed for life, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Talking to media on Tuesday, the PML-N leader said that accountability circus was going on in the country. Now the government has become a part of it, he stated adding that only one person (NAB chief) was responsible for conducting the accountability process and the government did not want to let him go because it wanted to conceal its own theft.

“It looks like that the NAB chief has been appointed for life. Only time will tell what will become of this chairman and Prime Minister Imran Khan in future,” Abbasi remarked.

He was of the view that the NAB (Amendment) Ordinance would only be used to save the government. He stated that neither government nor its ministers were concerned over the deteriorating condition of the economy.

He said that his party would challenge the ordinance in the high court, Supreme Court and Senate. He lamented that no consultation process for the appointment of a new NAB head was started with the opposition despite the fact that Justice ® Iqbal had been retired four days ago.

“It’s deplorable that through an ordinance a NAB chief (who has completed his term) has been allowed to continue,” he added.

On Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Abbasi said that the PDM would hold its rally in Faisalabad on Oct 16 and its parliamentary leaders’ meeting would be held on Oct 18 in which the future course of action of the alliance would be chalked out.
