ATC grants bail to social media activist Sanam Javed

An Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore Wednesday rejected the bail application of former Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Rubina Jamil implicated in the burning of police vehicles on May 9 in front of Rahat Bakery, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.

The hearing, presided over by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Javed, witnessed a denial of bail for Rubina Jamil, who is currently in judicial remand along with social media activist Sanam Javed and other associates.

While Rubina Jamil faced a setback in her quest for bail, the court accepted the plea of social media activist Sanam Javed. Both accused, along with others, are currently held in jail on judicial remand. Lawyers representing Rubina Jamil, Sanam Javed, and other co-accused had filed bail applications after their arrest, marking a legal battle that has now taken a turn.

Notably, the prosecution has introduced additional charges, including sedition, to the case, escalating its legal complexity. The accused, including Rubina Jamil, are specifically charged with burning police vehicles on May 9, a case registered under number 109/23 at the Sarwar Road police station.

In a parallel development, the Anti-Terrorism Court approved the bail application of Sanam Javed and her co-accused, including Syed Faisal Akhtar, Umair, Afshan Tariq, and Ali Hassan. The court ordered their release upon furnishing a surety bond of Rs 100,000 each.
