In a development that could dramatically reshape the electric vehicle (EV) landscape, StoreDot has unveiled a 600,000-mile EV battery — a leap that could end one of the biggest pain points in electric mobility: battery longevity.

Currently, most EV batteries on the market offer a range between 250 and 400 miles per charge, with top performers like Lucid Air Dream Edition reaching up to 520 miles under ideal conditions. However, battery degradation over time often limits total lifespan to 150,000–200,000 miles before significant range loss occurs. This new battery, boasting a 600,000-mile lifespan, could effectively triple that endurance, redefining what “long-lasting” means in the EV world.

Founded in 2012 by Dr. Doron Myersdorf, StoreDot has long been a pioneer in extreme fast-charging (XFC) and high-energy-density battery technology. Its latest innovation employs a silicon-dominant anode instead of traditional graphite — a bold shift that not only improves energy storage but also reduces the industry’s reliance on scarce materials.

The 600,000-mile battery uses a silicon-carbon composite design, capable of enduring over 2,000 consecutive full XFC cycles. Even more impressive, it can deliver 100 miles of range in just five minutes of charging — potentially making EV pit stops as quick as a coffee break. The new design is smaller and lighter than conventional packs, offering automakers more flexibility and improved overall vehicle performance.

“This is a monumental achievement,” said Dr. David Lee, StoreDot’s Global Chief Strategy Officer. “We’ve proven you can have both extreme fast charging and a long-lasting battery, making longevity concerns a thing of the past.”

According to Dr. Myersdorf, silicon’s abundance and sustainability make it a natural choice for next-generation batteries.

While large-scale manufacturing partnerships are still needed, the implications of StoreDot’s breakthrough are profound. A smaller, lighter, faster-charging, and far more durable battery could usher in a new era for electric transportation, driving down maintenance costs and increasing consumer confidence in EV reliability.
