Pakistan launches emergency healthcare training for Palestinians to strengthen medical

A launching ceremony for the Basic Life Support (BLS) and Basic Trauma Management Course for Palestinian nationals was held in Islamabad on Sunday.

The initiative is a joint effort of COMSTECH, Fatima Memorial Hospital, and NUR International University, aimed at enhancing the emergency healthcare capacity of Palestinian medical professionals and youth.

The course was conceived in response to the urgent need to strengthen emergency response systems and medical skills among Palestinian healthcare workers, particularly in light of the ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza.

Organizers emphasized that the devastation and medical challenges faced by Gaza’s population have underscored the importance of timely and efficient life-saving responses, including trauma care and psychological support.

The one-month online program features comprehensive modules covering Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Trauma and Wound Management, Spinal and Limb Immobilization, Psychological Support, and Physical Rehabilitation.

It is specifically tailored for Palestinian participants, allowing them to develop their professional competence and confidence while remaining in their homeland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, described the program as both a symbol of solidarity and a strategic investment in human capital and health resilience in Palestine.

He noted that education and training remain powerful tools for empowering communities in crises.

Dr Choudhary also commended Fatima Memorial Hospital and NUR International University for their strong academic collaboration and extended gratitude to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Representative Office of the State of Palestine for their consistent support.

Prof Dr Farooq Anwar, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NUR International University, praised COMSTECH’s leadership in initiating the project and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to contributing to humanitarian education and technical capacity-building efforts.

Tawfiq Khader, Counsellor at the Embassy of Palestine in Pakistan, expressed deep appreciation for the continued support extended by OIC-COMSTECH and its partner institutions towards the Palestinian cause.

He highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in building the resilience of Palestinian healthcare workers.

Joining the event virtually, Prof Dr Omar Melad, Vice Chancellor of Al-Azhar University in Gaza, and Ahmad Ali Hanoun, Director General of the Representative Office of the OIC to the State of Palestine, thanked COMSTECH and its partners for organizing a course of profound significance and timeliness for the people of Palestine.
