The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered the federal government to file a comprehensive reply regarding a petition about the possible military trial of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan next Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During the hearing of the petition filed by Imran Khan against his possible military trial, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb remarked that the PTI founder was a civilian, and the military trial of a civilian was a source of concern not only for the petitioner but also for the court.

He said that as per the petition, the DG ISPR had issued a statement in this regard.

He further said that the petitioner had also quoted federal ministers as saying that he would be tried in a military court.

The government, he went on to say, should clarify its position on the subject; whether the matter was under consideration or not. “If the government has such plans, the court will take up the case for the hearing; otherwise the plea will become ineffective.”

The judge said there existed a decision by the Supreme Court on the issue.

Earlier, Justice Aurangzeb removed the objections raised by the Registrar's Office to the petition and ordered the registrar to allot a number to it.

The court then adjourned the case’s hearing until September 16.
