A woman tortured an all-female polio team in Shafiqabad Union Council (UC-69) area in Data Ganj Bukhsh Town of Lahore on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to report, the woman first quarreled with the polio team for insisting to vaccinate her child then she resorted to violence.

During the fight, the clothes of the female polio worker were also torn.

The police as usual reached the spot late despite receiving information of the incident.

Later, while taking action the police arrested the woman who tortured the polio workers and a man and registered a case against them.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took the notice and sought report of the incident of torture on polio team.

The Chief Minister said that she will not tolerate any obstruction in the anti-polio campaign. She said polio workers are doing their national duty to save children from disability.

Earlier, Lahore police have completed foolproof security arrangements in order to conduct peaceful anti-polio campaign.

According to Lahore police spokesperson, more than 1200 police officials are performing their duties for the security of the polio workers.

Spokesperson said that security will be on alert until the successful completion of the anti-polio campaign, which will continue until September 15.

In this regard Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddiqque Kamiana said that full security is being provided for the success of anti-polio campaign.

SHOs should personally supervise the security arrangements of polio teams in their respective areas, the CCPO ordered.

Patrolling is being done by Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit teams across the city, CCPO Lahore said.

No negligence or omission will be tolerated in providing security to anti-polio teams, he added

The CCPO ordered that in case of any untoward incident, immediate legal action should be taken.
